The Referral Process

Clients wishing to obtain rebates for their therapy will need to attend their GP or Psychiatrist to obtain a referral for psychological services. When making an appointment with your referrer please ask for a long consultation. Your doctor will assess for eligibility for the appropriate rebates. Not all client problems are able to receive rebates.

Initial Consultation

The therapy process begins with an initial consultation. The purpose of this appointment is to get a thorough understanding of your difficulties, personal and family history and strengths. It is also an opportunity to start the process of building a trusting and collaborative relationship with your therapist. Following this appointment, together you will begin the process of developing a formulation and treatment plan in order to reach your goals.

Therapy Process

Sessions are 50 minutes in duration and frequency of appointments is individually tailored to your needs. Frequency can range from weekly to monthly.

Fees and Rebates

Medicare and private health fund rebates may be available for eligible clients. For these rebates, a referral must be initiated by your GP or Psychiatrist. Reviews are then provided by the referrer for approval for more sessions as therapy progresses. Please contact us for more details or any questions. Change Psychology has electronic claiming and EFTPOS facilities. There is usually a gap payment on top of the rebate.

There is a cancellation fee for appointments cancelled within 24 hours of the appointment time or for non-attended appointments, unless another suitable appointment can be made within the week of the appointment. Unfortunately, no rebates are available for cancellation fees. Cancellations made before the 24 hour time frame will not incur a fee.
